How we process it, step by step
- Component production
Each fruit and vegetable in the blend is dried on its own line to its own moisture target, because a 5 mm apple dice and a 10 mm pumpkin cube do not dry at the same rate.
- Grading before blending
Components are graded by size and colour before they meet, so a blend does not end up with fine crumb from one ingredient and oversized pieces from another.
- Ratio-controlled blending
Blending is done by weight against the approved formula, not by volume, and the mixing time is fixed per recipe so the ratio holds from the first bag to the last.
- Homogeneity check
Samples are drawn from the top, middle and bottom of the batch and visually compared against the approved standard before release.
- Metal detection and packing
The finished blend passes metal detection and X-ray, then is packed in PE-lined cartons or retail pouches with a lot code per blend run.
Grades, cut sizes and best-fit uses
| Grade | Specification | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast blend | Apple, strawberry, banana, raisin | Cereal, muesli, granola clusters |
| Tropical blend | Mango, pineapple, coconut, banana | Snack packs, yoghurt toppers |
| Vegetable soup blend | Carrot, onion, celery, tomato, spinach | Instant soup, ready meals |
| Custom ratio | Any components from our range | Private label, brand-exclusive mixes |
Cut size and colour are matched to your approved sample; tolerances are written into the specification sheet before production.
Quality control: the limits we work to
| Moisture | < 5% |
|---|---|
| Water activity (Aw) | ≤ 0.30 |
| Particle / cut size | 6-12 mm typical, matched components |
| Blend ratio | Controlled by weight, tolerance +/- 2% |
| Total plate count | < 10,000 CFU/g (typical limit, batch COA confirms) |
| Coliforms | < 10 CFU/g |
|---|---|
| Yeast and mould | < 100 CFU/g |
| Salmonella | Negative in 25 g |
| Heavy metals | Pb < 0.5 mg/kg, Cd < 0.2 mg/kg |
| Foreign matter | None; X-ray and metal detection on every lot |
Values above are the standard specification for this range. The certificate of analysis issued with each lot states the measured result, and we will quote tighter limits where your own HACCP plan requires them.
How a custom blend project runs
We start from your concept: target cost per kilogram, ratio, cut size, colour and packaging. Samples are produced in small batches for sensory and line trials, then the approved sample becomes the reference standard for production.
Blends are mixed in defined batch sizes with ratio checks, and each lot keeps a retained sample for traceability. Seasonal or promotional variants can be produced from the same approved components.
Private label and packaging
Complete private label support is available: pouch and carton printing, nitrogen flushing, sachet filling, barcode and nutrition panel, lot coding and export documentation.
Components are selected and cut so they rehydrate within a similar time window, which is verified during sampling before production starts.
Packaging, MOQ and lead time
| Inner packing | Food-grade PE bag, nitrogen flush on request |
|---|---|
| Outer packing | 10 / 20 / 25 kg export carton with liner, or retail-ready pouch |
| Pallet | Euro or 1100 x 1100 mm pallet, shrink-wrapped, 1,000-1,200 kg per pallet |
| MOQ | 500 kg per blend |
| Lead time | 18-25 days after sample approval |
| Loading port | Qingdao / Shanghai |
| Shelf life | 18-24 months |
What actually drives the price
- Component mix: the ratio decides the price, and one expensive component can carry the whole blend.
- Colour and cut matching: components must look like they belong together, which means extra sorting.
- Small batch blends: short runs mean more cleaning between recipes and a higher setup cost per kilo.
- Packaging: retail pouches with window film cost far more than 20 kg cartons.
Quotes are built line by line, so you can see which choice moves the number before you commit.
How it compares with the alternatives
| Attribute | Custom blend | Single-ingredient pack | Buying components separately |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consistency | Fixed ratio per lot | Single variable | Depends on your mixing |
| Lead time | One PO, one shipment | One PO per SKU | Multiple suppliers to manage |
| Minimum order | 500 kg per blend | 200-500 kg per SKU | Higher total volume |
| Traceability | One lot code for the blend | One lot per SKU | Fragmented |
Five checks before you place a purchase order
- Ask for a blend sample from the exact production line that will run your order - not a generic sample from stock.
- Match the component ratio against your own process: too fine and it dusts, too coarse and it will not disperse evenly.
- Request the COA and allergen statement for the lot you will receive, and keep the retained sample in your own file.
- Confirm the packing format and pallet height before booking freight; carton dimensions decide your container utilisation.
- Agree the acceptance criteria in writing, including colour tolerance and defect limits, so an incoming inspection has a reference.
Frequently asked questions
Can you match a blend we already buy elsewhere?
Yes. Send a sample or a specification with ratios and cut sizes and we will reverse-engineer the blend, then produce a trial batch for comparison.
Is there a minimum for a custom blend?
Custom blends start from trial quantities so you can evaluate before scaling. The commercial minimum depends on component availability and packaging.
Can components have different rehydration times?
They should not. We select and cut components so they rehydrate within a similar time window, and we test this during sampling.
Do you supply retail-ready mixed packs?
Yes, including printed pouches and cartons with your artwork and regulatory panel.
Can the ratio be changed between production runs?
Yes. Once a ratio is fixed it stays as the approved standard, but new ratios can be set up as separate specifications when you launch a variant.
Can we set our own blend ratio?
Yes. Send the target ratio by weight and the cut size for each component, and we will produce a sample for approval. Ratios are held to about plus or minus 2% by weight, and the approved sample becomes the reference for every later batch.
Why do the components in a blend sometimes separate in the bag?
Fine powder and large dice settle at different rates during transport. We minimise it by matching component sizes, and for retail packs we recommend a carton that stays upright plus a note to shake before use.
What is the minimum order for a custom blend?
500 kg for a custom ratio, lower if it uses components already in production. Trial quantities are accepted so your team can run a fill and shelf-life test before committing to a full run.
